Can I use tide powder detergent?  There is no place to put it so I sprinkled on top of clothes, however there were remnants in dryer lint vent? I have the GTW840

Asked by: Powder detergent
Hello, Thank you for reaching out to us at GE Appliances We are so happy to help. We definitely recommend only putting liquid detergent inside the smart dispenser as it is designed to only hold high efficiency detergent. You can still use powered detergent, all you have to do is sprinkle it directly on the clothes and make sure the SmartDispense is turned off. This information can always be found on page 15 of the Use and Care manual in case you need it in the future. The Use and Care Manual can be found here:https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-3000187-1.pdf. We hope this helps, feel free to reach out again with any other questions you may have. Have a great day!-Avery@GEA

We are having balancing issues washing towels mostly(cannot wash more than 6 at once) but also with other random loads, at times we will need to reposition the load up to 3 or 4 times before it will go through a full spin cycle. The washer is level

Asked by: VinceS
Hi there VinceS, Thank you so much for reaching out. We're sorry to hear about the balancing issues. We can understand how that would be concerning. All GE Appliances washer tubs move freely within our exclusive auto balance suspension system. It is a rod and spring floating suspension, designed to withstand extensive out of balance situations without the need for an "out of balance" switch. During an out of balance load, the basket is allowed to "float" forward and backward, side to side, and up and down, yet it never touches the floor nor is it even connected to the floor. As a result, the clothes basket can move freely, and this is normal. If the washer detects that it is unbalanced, then it will attempt to auto balance itself. If balancing issues continue to be a problem, we would recommend service. You can schedule an appointment by calling 1-800-432-2737 or schedule online at https://www.geappliances.com/ge/service-and-support/service.htm If you have any other questions, please feel free to reach out to us via social media or through our Contact Us page. We hope this helps. Best wishes. Mike@GEA

Does this model have an internal heater to get the water temperature to the correct setting? I have a tankless water heater and am looking to upgrade from my current model as the water doesn’t get hot fast enough currently because of my water heater.

Asked by: Mo227
Hi Mo227! Thank you for your interest in GE Appliances. This is a great washer model, and we're happy to offer some guidance here. Rather than using internal heating elements, our washers use the household hot and cold water supplies to meet the desired temperature. The household water heater should be set to deliver water at 120° to 150°F (50° to 66°C) to the washer when hot wash is selected. The water pressure must also be a minimum of 20 psi to 120 psi maximum. We hope this helps! - Liz@GEA

EVERY time is washing the machine become off balance. I cannot wash a full load without it becoming off balance. I am ready to just buy another washer! what should i do. Repair person have been out 2 times

Asked by: sheliamad
Hi sheliamad! Thank you for choosing GE Appliances for your home. We're so sorry to hear you're having trouble with your washer, and we're happy to offer some guidance here. An out-of-balance load is typically the result of how the washer is loaded. First, we recommending sorting the wash loads by color (whites, lights, colors), soil level and fabric type (sturdy cottons, easy care, delicates). Sturdy or bulky items should be washed separate from more delicate and lighter fabrics if possible to help prevent an out-of-balance situation. Load dry items loosely in the washer basket. For best results, load items evenly and loosely around the outside of the basket, filling in towards the center on larger loads. This will help keep the clothing evenly distributed throughout the wash cycle. Be careful not to place large items such as sheets, blankets and towels across the Infusor in the center of the basket as this can cause the items to get twisted and unbalanced. Load them around the outside of the basket. We also recommend not overloading the basket, and if needed, use the Deep Fill feature to increase the water level on larger loads. Also be sure to use the appropriate cycle setting for each load so the washer can accurately determine the amount of water needed. For example, use Towels for towels and sheets, and Colors for standard loads. For additional support, we recommend reviewing the Getting Started and Loading sections of the Use and Care Manual, which you can view and download at the web address below: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-3000187-1.pdf If you do experience an out-of-balance load, we recommend pressing the Start/Pause to pause the cycle, open the lid, and redistribute the clothes evenly. Then close the lid and press Start. You will notice the washer fill with a small amount of water and agitate briefly after being paused. This is normal. The washer is detecting the load and will momentarily resume the cycle where it left off when it was paused. We hope this helps! - Liz@GEA
