Measuring your space
Before you buy, take a few quick measurements to make sure your new pieces fit the room and leave enough space to move around comfortably.
When measuring for width
Leave at least 36 inches of clearance around your table for chairs to pull out and people to walk through comfortably.
When measuring for height
Standard tables sit around 28–30 inches high, counter height runs 34–36 inches, and pub height climbs to 40–42 inches — measure your space (and your stools) to match.
When measuring for shape
Round and oval tables tend to flow better in smaller or open rooms; rectangular tables make the most of long walls and larger dining rooms.
